Cumberland Bands Newsletter – 8/3/20

Hello wonderful band folks!

Well, here we go! I know we’re starting virtual, but we’re still going to have a dynamic band program for everyone! I know you have questions, and I hope this answers them. If it doesn’t, then my contact info is at the bottom.

What do you need to prepare?

1. For grades 6-12, you will need an instrument at home. If you are a percussionist, you will need to have your sticks and a pad for now. If your instrument is at school, then please come by the band room during the open house this Thursday from 3pm – 7pm to get it.
   
   If you are using a school-owned instrument and aren’t sure what you’re taking home, then let us know. We’ll make sure you have an instrument to use.
   
   If you are a 5th grader starting band, you do not yet need an instrument. We’ll sort that out once we’re back in the building.

2. You will need to have the ability to complete a short video performance assignment every week. This can be via phone, computer, etc. If you can email or upload it to me (via Google Classroom) then great. If not, then you need to get it loaded onto the thumb drive you are sending back to the school for your other classes.

3. You will need access to a metronome. Tons of free apps are available, as well as right through the Google browser by searching ‘metronome’.
   —
4. You will be expected to engage the materials in your class on Google Classroom. If you cannot attend the live classes, then they will be recorded and posted for viewing at your convenience.

5. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays in the 2 o’clock hour.
   
   5th and 6th grade bands will have class at 2:00 pm
   
   7th, 8th, and HS band will have class at 2:30 pm
   
   Each class will last about 25 minutes, Details will be forthcoming. Supplemental materials will be in the Google Classroom for the non-classroom days.

The first week of class will mostly be learning how the remote learning environment will work for band. Come with an open mind and ready to learn.
