Cumberland Bands Newsletter – 7/17/20

Hello fabulous band people!

This is just a quick note to say we’re planning for a dynamic and interesting fall season for band! I don’t have too many details for you yet, but I’ve had exciting conversations planning for the upcoming semester.

On a side note, I’m going to have to bail on Friday Google Meet live sessions (including today) for the next few weeks. Thanks for your understanding.

I know you have lots of questions. I’ll try to guess some of them and answer you here.

Are we having band class at school? Yes. It’ll be functionally different, but essentially the same. Social distancing will apply, as well as a couple of added responsibilities regarding your equipment — easy stuff. Details to follow.

What am I going to do for band the week I’m at home? Everyone will have both playing and theory responsibilities. Plan to have an instrument at home during your virtual week. If you don’t have an immediate solution to an instrument, do not panic. You know we’ll come up with a good solution for you.

What about marching band, guard, etc? Good question. The other band directors and I are working on some ideas, but I don’t yet have enough of my ducks in a row to announce anything. Just know that for every group we are coming up with creative opportunities for you to continue your activity. It won’t look like it did, but it will be something engaging, rewarding, and fun.

Lots will take shape once we’re back together and can talk about our future. I have missed you all greatly and cannot wait to be back to making great music with you!
