Cumberland Bands News – 1/12/18

Happy New Year all you awesome band folks!

I trust you all enjoyed both your winter breaks.  Now on to business for the new year 🙂

== ALL-DISTRICT BAND AUDITIONS 1/13/18

Be at the Band Room by 6am.  The venue has changed, and auditions are now at Monacan HS.  We will return around 3pm (I’ll shoot out a Remind text when we’re on our way back). Please make sure your child has money for concessions food or brings lunch food for themselves.

I could use one more confirmed chaperone for this event.  Any adult willing to hang out for some hours to collect kids as they finish auditioning would be welcome.  Not much to it, but I could really use the help. 🙂

P.S. – The band program paid $7 for each child who signed up to audition.  If your child does not audition, will you please be kind and return the $7 to the band program.

== WINTER GUARD 2018

We have an encouraging 15 students interested in being a part of the 2018 winter guard!  The snow has put a damper on us getting started, but we’re going to kick back into gear this coming Wednesday, Jan 17th.  I’m adjusting the plan a little, so expect a couple of Saturday rehearsals.  Additionally, I’m working to have competitions in March to give us time to develop a good performance.

== DISTRICT CONCERT BAND ASSESSMENT

Welcome to the SOLs of band!  Every concert band class student from 6th grade through HS will be expected to participate in this graded performance.  Details will be forthcoming, but our assessments will be some point during the day on either Thursday, March 1, or Friday, March 2, at Goochland HS.  We will likely be returning to Cumberland after the end of the school day, so keep your eyes here for details.

== SPRING CONCERTS

All band class students, 5th grade through HS, will have a graded spring concert performance. 5th and 6th grade will be on April 12th, and 7th-HS will be on April 17th.  Details forthcoming, but the schedules will be similar to the winter concerts.

== GRADUATION MAY 18, 2018

All band class students from 7th grade, 8th grade, and HS will be playing for graduation on this date in a required performance.  Please plan accordingly.  Details to follow.
