Cumberland Bands Newsletter – 8/8/17

Happy New (School) Year, Everyone!

We have 135 students enrolled in band classes this year!  This includes about 85% returning students from last year plus a healthy group of beginning band members! This program is growing like crazy.

The complete 2017-2018 Cumberland Bands calendar is up on the web site.  Now, while I say ‘complete’, please do note that this does not yet include any winter after-school ensembles at this time (winter guard, etc).  As we get closer to the end of the first semester, we’ll build those additional schedules based on interest in the various offerings.

It’s an exciting year for music in Cumberland!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

5th Grade Instrument Night – Scheduled for 7:pm on Tuesday, August 15th, this is an opportunity for the band to bring the music stores to you.  In the band room, various music stores will bring their inventories here so you can acquire your child’s instrument locally.  Of course, you can acquire your instrument anywhere — this is offered as an optional convenience to the Cumberland Bands families.

Marching Band – Marching band practice will begin on Tuesday, August 15th, from 3pm-6pm.  The rehearsal schedule will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3pm-6pm through the season.  Anyone in band 7th grade and older is welcome to join up, even if you weren’t sure before.  Athletic bus transportation is available.  More information will be handed out in class to those planning to march.

Band Boosters – For those of you who want to be active band boosters, we will be meeting sometime next week to plan for fundraising and the various events.  Keep an eye here for details.  This program thrives due to the awesome efforts of the booster program.
