Thanks to all the parents who made the Santa Breakfast such a success!  Also, thanks to the adults who made the parade go so smoothly — you’re all so amazing!

UPDATED! ==Winter Concert – Thursday, Dec 8th @7pm at CMS/CHS==

The 2016 Winter Concert is Thursday, December 8, at 7:pm in the CMS/CHS cafetorium.  All band classes are participating, and is a required part of their grade.  All band class students will stay after school.  The school is having a spaghetti supper for families who come to the Evening of Excellence festivities, so come eat supper with your band child around 6:15pm, then enjoy seasonal music!

This schedule has been updated. Please note the new times.

1:00pm – Be at the Band Room, get into uniform
1:30pm – Go to staging area
2:pm – Cumberland Christmas Parade starts
@3:30pm – Arrive back at Band Room

The end time is my best guess, so please make sure you’re getting the Remind.com alerts on your phone/email.  I will text when we are headed back to the band room, so you can retrieve your child within 20 minutes.

==School Board Performance==

The band program has been asked to perform at the school board meeting on December 12 @ 7:pm.  The 7th/8th grade band will perform a selection or two at the beginning of the meeting.  The students will stay after school and I will feed them supper.  They should be able to leave by around 7:15pm.

NEW! ==The new Cumberland Winter Guard auditions==

Cumberland Bands is going to field a winter guard this winter season.  First auditions will be next Wednesday, December 14th, from 3pm-6pm in the band room.  Students should dress in athletic-type clothes and plan to be active.  Students need to either be picked up at 6:pm from the band room, or can ride the 6:15 athletic bus to one of the designated stops on Rt 45.

Permission slips are available at both the CMS and CHS offices and in the band room.

UPDATED!==CES 4th grade musical performances==

These performances are completely voluntary.  Like last year, I need a small group of performers to play a few carols at the evening performance of the 4th grade musical at CES on Thursday, Dec 15th, and again on Dec 16th during the school day.

I will need permission slips filled out for this, so keep on the lookout!

NEW! ==District 3 All-District Band auditions==

Cumberland is a part of Virginia’s VBODA District 3!  VBODA is the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and is the governing body for much of statewide music in the same way VHSL manages sports.  District 3 is a vibrant community of school systems stretching from Cumberland east to Chesterfield, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and all counties south from there to the state line.

On January 7th, our 7th and 8th grade band members will be able to audition for the honor of being in the District 3 All-District Junior Band.  We have been working on the basic skills for each of them to succeed in auditions, and I am expecting them all to come with me on that Saturday.

Students who make the Jr All-District Band will have an opportunity to play as an honors band in early February.  More details to come.
